Growing a small business comes with a heap of responsibilities and costs. The restaurant industry is expanding at a fast pace, and at Grubhub, we are committed to helping all restaurants grow. The Greg Hill Foundation’s Restaurant Strong and Grubhub’s Community Fund are partnering to further aid small business restaurants with the Restaurant Strong Grant. The Restaurant Strong Grant will provide $1.25 million to small business restaurants.
This 2023, there will be multiple grants awarded, ranging from $5,000 – $25,000. Funds are intended to help restaurant owners fund maintaining infrastructure, updating technology and equipment, creating incentivized wages and anything else to help restaurants grow.
Restaurants will have the opportunity to apply for this grant by providing specific plans on how the grant will be utilized. Grant amounts will be awarded based on the need showcased.
The 2023 Restaurant Strong Grant application process
Applications for the 2023 Restaurant Strong Grant will be open from April 19th, 2023 through May 10th, 2023.

Application requirements
The Restaurant Strong grant is dedicated to helping small business restaurants. Only restaurants who adhere to the eligibility criteria can apply.
To be eligible for this grant, your restaurant must:
- Have only one location
- Have 50 employees or less
- Be currently open and operating in Boston, Chicago, New York City or Philadelphia
A portion of the grant proceeds are dedicated to supporting diverse, women owned, minority owned and LGBTQIA+ owned businesses.
How to apply
If your restaurant fits the eligibility criteria, the next step is to submit an application. In your application, you will be asked to provide specific plans on how you want to utilize the grant.

When creating your application, please keep in mind that the panel of judges is looking for as much detail as possible. To apply, you will need to:
- Provide a short description of your restaurant and why your restaurant is in need for the grant
- Provide a detailed description of how you plan to use the grant funds and how this grant will impact your restaurant an employees
- Confirm that your restaurant is currently open and operating
Grants will be awarded to restaurants depending on need and growth opportunity showcased in the application.
